For anyone who isn't familiar with the Open House tradition, its when a family that lives far from where the wedding and reception took place throw a casual party in the hometown of the bride or groom so that friends and family that couldn't make the trip can get together and celebrate. And The Heap's wrote the book on these parties. Perfect location, perfect food, perfect music, and of course, perfect company. Jonas' Birth | La Jolla, CA

What can I say about this amazing day? I haven't been able to shoot many births lately because of my own young babies and my husband's work schedule, so the stars really aligned when my dear friend Heidi was scheduled to be induced and I was able to be there. Obviously she handled the entire thing with unprecedented grace and beauty, and in less than 2 pushes, if I remember correctly. I mean, come on, she is radiant. I've photographed almost a dozen births now and each time I've been completely overcome with emotion, but that sweet baby boy was born into a room so overflowing with love and laughter that the joy we all felt witnessing it was incredible. It is always such a privilege to be present at such a sacred time in a family's life. I would shoot births every week if I could!
